ELLEN MOUNTS HAS GONE HOME

Barnwell – Ellen Mounts, 99, went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 31, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 3 pm, Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Mt. Lebanon Christian Church with the Rev. Ron Franklin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Ellen Kent Lumsden was born on November 23, 1917, the fourth child of Julia and Carrie Young Lumsden in Ashland, Virginia where she spent her childhood. She became a devout follower of Jesus Christ while attending Ashland Christian Church. As a teenager, she left home to attend Cincinnati Bible College to prepare for a lifetime of service to her Lord. After graduating, she accepted a post with Mountain Mission School in Grundy, Virginia. While teaching there she met a young itinerant preacher named Morris Mounts. They were married in December of 1939 and spent the next 60 years as pastors and evangelists in many churches in various locations: Mountain City, TN, Walterboro, SC, Aberdeen, MS, Valley Forge, TN, Washington, NC, Elkhorn City, KY, Morristown, TN, Richmond, KY and Barnwell, SC. They retired to Barnwell in 1990 and became active members of MT. Lebanon Christian Church. After “Preacher Mounts” death in 1998, Ellen continued to serve the church as pianist and hosted Bible studies in her home until her health failed and she moved to Pruitt Health in May of 2012.
Ellen loved Jesus and people throughout her 99 years and continuously opened her heart to everyone she met, sharing freely of her wisdom and advice. Her quiet and gentle spirit had great influence on countless people. She kept a long prayer list and faithfully prayed daily for family, friends and caregivers. She loved to read, do puzzles, email and Facebook. Though her body was failing her mind was sharp until the last days.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses Ronald and Kathy Mounts, Orlando, FL, Fred and Jeanette Mounts Kelly, Atlanta, GA, Everett and Mary Mounts, S. Boston, Virginia, and Larry and Eileen Mounts Gordon, Sioux City, Iowa. She was Granny to Jack Kelly, Tina Stephens, Cary Gordon, Cherry Gordon Pedersen, Chace Gordon and Halle Gordon. She also had 19 great grandchildren. She also leaves special friends and caregivers, Cappy Gainey, Yvonne Zissett and a special “son” John Bouchillon.
In lieu of flowers, she requested donations to the American Bile Society, 1865 Broadway, New York, NY 10023 or Mt Lebanon Christian Church, 420 Christian Road, Barnwell, SC 29812.
The family has entrusted Dyches Funeral Home and Crematory with arrangements.
