Augusta, GA – Robert “Steve” Blitchington, 72, passed away on January 31, 2022. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Westover Memorial Park, 2601 Wheeler Road, Augusta, GA with Pastor Wayne Ursery officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 4, 2022 at Chance & Hydrick Funeral Home, 2502 Richmond Hill Road, Augusta, GA from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Steve was born on August 26, 1949 to the late John Blitchington and Betty Jean Pardue. He served 20 years in the US Navy. He was retired from International Paper. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by many.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Brenda S. Blitchington; three sons, Floyd (Jenn) Blitchington of Tennessee, Charlie (Jo-An) Cook of Columbia, SC and Charles Cook of Augusta, GA; two daughters, Ann-Marie Cook and Jenna-Faye Penwell of Augusta, GA; four sisters, Kathy (Wayne) Gladden of Lugoff, SC, Wanda Crosby, Rosemary Barras, Patty Painter all of Columbia, SC; one brother David Hutto of Columbia, SC and ten grandchildren.
He is predeased by his stepfather, Thomas Barras and his brother Ronnie Blitchington.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
The family has entrusted Dyches Funeral Home and Crematory with arrangements.
