Barnwell, SC – Laverna M. Still, 81, went to be with the Lord on May 25, 2016. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 27, 2016 at 3 in the afternoon at the Dyches Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. followed with a service officiated by the Reverend Harry Warren. Burial will follow at Reedy Branch Baptist Church cemetery. Pall Bearers will be Jeremy Wall, Justin Wall, Kevin Wall, Darren Towne, Steve Morris, Brice Smith and Houston Towne. Honorary Pall Bearers are Austin Morris, Garrison Morris, Jared Towne, Parker Wall, Fate Wall and Paxton Wall.
Laverna was the daughter of the late Kirby Still and Ida Mae Grubbs Still. She was the loving wife of the Reverend Alfred Still for 67 years and a devoted mother and grandmother, who loved gardening, baking, sewing and cooking. She was a lifelong member of Reedy Branch Baptist Church, and she enjoyed working hard inside and outside of the household. She served as a pastor’s wife for 37 years at Ashleigh Baptist Church, where she worked in the nursery for many years. In addition, she retired as the lunch room manager at Blackville-Hilda Middle School.
Survivors are her husband, the Reverend Alfred Still; her son, Billy (Anne) Still of Ehrhardt; three daughters, Shirley (Butch) Widener of Blackville, Linda (Hayne) Towne of Barnwell, and Lavonne Gatlin of Florence, AL; four brothers, James Elmer Still, Kirby Still, Obie Still and Merrice Still all of Barnwell, SC; 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
She is predeceased by two sisters, Frances Still and Ruby Still; five brothers, Lowman Still, Bobby Still, Marcus Still, Tommy Still, and Eirby Still; and one grandchild, Joey Morris.
The family has entrusted Dyches Funeral Home and Crematory with the arrangements. She will be missed by many and loved for all time.
