Blackville – Joe Barrett Owens, Sr., 82, passed away at Trident Medical Center, August 25, 2024, surrounded by family. A Memorial Service will be held, Sunday, September 1, 2024 at 3 p.m. at Dyches Funeral Home with Dr. Thomas Terry officiating.
Joe was born in Barnwell County. He was the son of Gilmore S. Owens, Sr. and Dora Mae Wilson Owens. He owned and operated Owens Realty of Blackville. He was a member of Healing Springs Baptist Church, served in the Army National Guard, Masons and formal J. C. member. Joe was a family man that loved his family, loved to hunt, dance, fishing and cooking for his family and friends. He will be missed by many.
Survivors include his son, Joe Barrett Owens, Jr. of Barnwell; one brother, Gene S (Betty) Owens of Blackville and sister in law, Janice Owens of Blackville; special niece Melody O. (Eddie) Bonnette of Blackville; special nephew Gene S. (Fran) Owens, Jr. of Aiken; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Ernestine “Sis” Harriott; four brothers Oscar H. Owens, Franklin D. Owens, Bobby Wilson Owens and Gilmore S. Owens, Jr.
The family would like to thank St. George Health Care Center in St. George, S.C. for all the love and care shown during his time with them.
