Herbert Albert Hodge

Herbert Albert Hodge, 83, of Burgaw passed from his earthly life Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Novant Brunswick Medical Center in Bolivia.
He was born April 24, 1938 in Sumter, SC one of six children born to Fred and Mary Margaret Geddings Hodge. In addition to his parents, Herbert was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Renate Pope; and three siblings.
Herbert is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Margaret Hodge; daughter, Nancy Hodge Bodiford (Timothy); son, Jerry Albert Hodge (Andrea); step-children, Enid Walker, Dora Simon (Bryan), and Brent Newton (Allyson); ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; brother, Fred Hodge; sister, Mary Margaret Sawyer (Bob); and many nieces and nephews.
He retired after working many years as a mail handler in Columbia, SC.
In years past Herbert enjoyed fishing and being outdoors in God’s wonderful world of nature. As long as his eyesight permitted he kept busy putting cane bottoms in chairs. It is said by many that Herbert was a kindhearted sweet soul. He was a devoted husband and a good daddy and granddaddy. Herbert was loved and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2022 at United Faith Fellowship at United Faith Fellowship in Atkinson. Pastor Clay Carter will conduct the service.
