Barnwell – James “Jimmy” Barrett Baxley, 75, entered into eternal rest Thursday, October 25, 2018. Services will be held at Hagood Avenue Baptist Church Sunday at 2pm with Dr. Kenneth Cato officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday, from 5-8 at Dyches Funeral Home, Barnwell, SC. Burial following in Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery.
Jimmy was the son of the late Thomas Barrett Baxley and Geneva Birt.
He was a long time member of Hagood Avenue Baptist Church of Barnwell where he was a church greeter and served as a past deacon. He was the current Worshipful Master of Harmony Lodge #17. He served as Former Captain of Barnwell Fire Department with 30 plus years of service. He served as a Barnwell County reserve deputy. He worked for Barnwell County as a Maintenance supervisor for many years. He also worked at Barnwell County Recycle Center and as a Barnwell County bailiff. He loved to fish, spend time watching softball games and spend time with family and friends. Jimmy is known to many as “Papa” a loving, generous Christian man and he will be missed by many.
Survivors include three daughters; Donna (Bill) Dixon, Teresa (Andy) Hogg, Dana Williams and Bill Saxon all of Barnwell; Six grandchildren, Heather Dixon, Stephanie (Alan) Kennedy, Malory Hogg, Cohen Williams, Andi Hogg and Cassie Williams all of Barnwell. Seven great grandchildren; Annaleigh Kennedy, Weslynn Kennedy, Emma Bolen, Hunter Bolen, Aubrey Jones, Zylar Williams and Evan Williams.
He is preceded in death by his wife Margaret Joanne Baxley.
