Barnwell- Cynthia Delores Lucas, 77, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2023. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Apostles, 9357 Patterson Street, Barnwell, S.C. with Father Bill Clarkson officiating. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.
Cynthia was born in Connecticut and lived in North Carolina until age 16 before moving to Trenton, NJ. She is preceded in death by her mother Mary Scoggins, step father William Scoggins and her sister Shirley Brown.
She was educated in the Trenton Public School System and attended Mercer County Community College. Cynthia was the first black female motor vehicle inspectors for the State of New Jersey. She was always willing to step up for any challenge was not afraid of new adventures or hard work. She was employed by the Johnstone Development Center in Bordentown NJ. It was there that she met her husband, Bruce Lucas and relocated to South Carolina. It was in South Carolina that she retired after many years in the social services. Cynthia continued to volunteer with other agencies such as the Red Cross, Meals on Wheels and Relay for Life events. She loved life and was always excited to be able to make a difference somewhere for someone. She was a wonderful Mother, sister, grandmother and friend and will be missed by many.
She leaves to cherish and celebrate her life; son Arthur Huntley (Kara) of Stone Mountain Georgia, sisters Nadine Ross (Ronald), Selena Wheeler of New Jersey and brother in-law Michael Brown. She was blessed with four grandchildren; Arthur E. Huntley Jr., Emil Fennel, Shavone Fennel, Elijah Huntley and three great granddaughters. Her church family and special sister in Christ, Jane Embler.
The family has entrusted Dyches Funeral Home and Crematory with arrangements.
