Barnwell – John Heyward Still, 94, passed away at his home on May 29, 2023, surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, Barnwell, SC with Rev. Jeffrey Ray and Rev. Marshall Still officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Burial will be held at Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Jim Parnell officiating.
John was born in Olar, SC to the late John and Janie Lou Still. He worked for Shuron for over thirty years. He retired from Bechtel at Savannah River Site as a surveyor. He served in the Army National Guard and was a member of Harmony Lodge 17 of Barnwell. He was the oldest and longest serving member at Friendship Baptist Church. He loved gardening, working in his yard, hunting, fishing and studying the Bible. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be missed by many.
Survivors include two sons, Danny Still of Isola, MS; Mike (Val) Still of Augusta, GA; daughter, Beverly (Sandy) Nettles of Williston, SC; one sister, Peggy Jackson of Hendersonville, NC; nine grandchildren, Brent (Sasha) Still of Clinton, MS; Erik (Courtney) Still of Barnwell, SC; Kellee (Ryan) Burke of Big Pine Key, FL, Beth (Tony) Faulkner of N. Augusta, SC; Patti Still of Homestead, FL; Matthew (Lacey) Bradham of Aiken, SC; Michael (Mandy) Bradham of Aiken, SC; Patrick (Kandice) Nettles of Bamberg, SC and Ross (Lindsey) Nettles of Barnwell, SC. Nineteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his wife Geneva Hayes Still; two sisters, Myrl Still and Christobel Ayer; two brothers, Tom Still and Marion Still; one great grandson, Jaden Pierce.
